Lead Weights

For centuries, lead has been the material of choice for weighting purposes due to its high density, which allows for smaller volumes to achieve the desired weights. One of its main advantages is its remarkable durability, making it ideal for applications in aqueous and marine environments, such as fishing line weights and anchors. Unlike iron, which corrodes rapidly in such environments, lead remains resistant to degradation without requiring extensive alloying or protective coatings. However, small lead weights have been banned in certain areas for hunting and fishing to prevent bird ingestion.

Lead Weights

Larger lead weights, including diving belts, are still permitted, and lead weights find various other applications such as wheel balances in motor cars, curtain weights, and yacht keels. The suitability for recycling further enhances its appeal, as lead weights can be easily recycled, provided adequate collection methods are in place.
